Friends, it is with immense pleasure that I, Emma Mirles-Jones, announce that I am running for Judge of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas - General Division.  Please come out and vote for me in November.

Nope, this is not your imagination.  Your memory is just fine. There was no primary for this seat.  This is a SPECIAL ELECTION to replace the Common Pleas - General Division Judge that resigned suddenly a few months ago.  

Despite the whirlwind nomination process, I am confident that my:

• 16 years practicing law, 
• 30+ years of overall work experience, 
• Juris Doctor and MBA dual degree in Finance & Banking plus Entrepreneurship (dual major) from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and The Weatherhead School of Management 

have all prepared me to tackle complex civil and criminal matters.

For the past 16 years, I have practiced predominantly as:

•  a Court Appointed Counsel / Public Defender in Franklin, Delaware, and recently Morrow Counties.  
• Representing abused, neglected, and dependent children as a Guardian ad litem which is an unbiased, quasi-judicial role.  
• Practicing criminal and delinquency defense in Juvenile, Municipal, and Common Pleas felony courts.  
• Representing parents in abuse, neglect, and dependency cases who are at risk of losing their parental rights.  
• Additionally, I practice appellate law in these areas as well.

Other areas of law practice have included:

• Supreme Court of Ohio qualified Mediator, 
• Domestic Relations, divorces, and private custody cases,
• Assisted business clients with business formation, 
• Tax Defense, 
• Tax Preparation for individuals, small businesses, partnerships, trusts, estates, with some experience in farms, oil and gas law, 
• Foreclosure Defense, 
• Landlord Tenant Disputes, and 
• Voting Rights Advocacy.

My prior work experience includes:  

• Manager and Trainer at a Fortune 200 high tech firm, 
• Due Diligence for a Real Estate Developer 
• Commercial Banking Associate Training Program for a Fortune 500 bank, 
• Corporate Trust Banker for a Fortune 200 bank,
• Office Manager for an internet high tech startup for online secondary market auction site,
• Human Resources Assistant for a national Section 42 low-income housing tax credit investment firm, 
• Baseball, Softball, and Intramural Umpire,
• as well as numerous roles in several retail companies.

In my limited free time, I like to train my pets to use talking buttons, play the ukulele, and play ice hockey (when I'm not injured).  I am an avid reader and knitter.  I sometimes do both at the same time.  I am a member of the Buckeye Ukulele Society.  Additionally, I am a very proud co-facilitator along with some of my BUkS jam-mates for a Ukes4Vets pilot program set to launch in October 2026 in central Ohio under the guidance of Guitar4Vets national.  Stay tuned for more news to come as we finalize our teaching schedule and curriculum.  

Finally, I have the educational and industry experience required to understand complex civil litigation and financial transactions, plus the experience of a seasoned public defender to thoroughly comprehend the daily challenges of defendants and victims in criminal cases.  My experience as a Guardian ad litem and mediator have taught me the importance of listening carefully before jumping to conclusions and remaining unbiased.  My commitment to serving the public is proven after 16 years of law practice and will continue from the judicial bench.  I solemnly commit to listen to all the facts, then apply the law equally and fairly to the best of my ability.
